Hello, my name is Miss Doll! Five things you need to know about me are as follows:
- I love world history; I received my degree in history and minor in archaeology from UBC and have spent much of my life travelling abroad visiting historical sites and interacting with a variety of wonderful people and cultures. In 2022 I moved to Scotland for six months to complete work on the Canadian and Scottish historical connections portion of my history degree and now I am absolutely fascinated by all things Scotland!
- I am an equestrian and adore all things horse! I have been lucky enough to own my own horse as well as to have experienced riding adventures during my time abroad! Where’s the coolest place I have ever ridden? Probably in Egypt around the pyramids (but that wasn’t on a horse!) or in the hills and beaches of Dingle, Ireland!
- I am a lover of the arts, especially music! I grew up playing the saxophones (preference for the tenor) and trained in classical and operatic voice. I was a member of several choirs and bands in my high school and university career! When not performing myself, I love to go to concerts and performances of all types. I especially enjoy it if the performers are friends of mine. My favourite musical genres include classic rock, Irish trad, Nordic folk, classic metal, and baroque!
- I adore all things fantasy and mystery! I am a BIG fantasy nerd who loves to spend my free time: reading novels of mysterious, magical adventures, watching Lord of the Rings and Critical Role, and playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends! Over the summer of 2023, I attended my first Renaissance Fair, and absolutely loved it and now hope to include attending Renaissance fairs in my future travel adventures!
- I love baking and all things Great Canadian Baking Show! Although I am not a great baker (yet!) I hope to one day be good enough to earn a spot on CBC’s ‘Great Canadian Baking Show’! (update: I recently met and had dinner cooked for me by Bruno Feldisen, the main judge of the Great Canadian Baking show (Aug 2024)). Some of my favorite things to bake are historical recreations, such as those shared by Max Miller (Tasting History with Max Miller on YouTube), Cinnamon bun varieties and all things Kroca!
Would you like a bonus fact?
I am a big fan of the Romantics and the Victorian Era, and currently have 4 pets named after some of my favourite authors of those periods! I have 3 fish (zebra danios) named Byron, Keats and Percy Fyshe respectively, and a chaotic black cat named Bram Stoker!
